Pastor Jon Magnuson and Shirley Sorrels presents The Return: Jacques Marquette Bones, Prayers, and a Journey Home. Father Marquette, a Jesuit Priest, is identified as the founder of St. Ignace when he founded the Jesuit Mission in 1671, named in honor of St. Ignatious of Loyola. About 1879, Father Jacker discovered the burial site of Father Marquette. After the site was excavated, some of Marquette’s remains were buried under a monument and other fragments were cared for by Father Jacker. In the time since there has been some mystery about the location of Father Marquette’s remains.

Pastor Magnuson and Shirley Sorrels will discuss the research, challenges, and triumphs of locating the remains of Father Marquette and bringing his remains back to St. Ignace. Seating is limited, please register here for this free in-person program.

Jon Magnuson is a former pastor of the Zion/Trinity Lutheran (ELCA) Parish in St. Ignace and Brevort. He is currently Director for the Cedar Tree Institute, a nonprofit organization that initiates projects and provides services in the areas of mental health, religion, and the environment. Shirely Sorrels is the Director of the Museum of Ojibwa Culture in St. Ignace.
