Mackinac Bridge - Then and Now

In cooperation with the St. Ignace Public Library, the Michilimackinac Historical Society presents Mackinac Bridge - Then and Now with Kim Nowack.

Director of the Mackinac Bridge Authority, Kim Nowack, will present the history of straits area transportation and the building of Michigan’s iconic bridge. She will also discuss maintenance on the bridge and Mackinac Bridge related current events.

Kim received her Civil Engineering degree from Michigan Technological University in 1985. In 2002, she became the first woman in the Mackinac Bridge’s history to be the Chief Engineer for the Mackinac Bridge Authority. She was responsible for all engineering and maintenance oversight of the bridge. After 17 years as the Chief Engineer, Kim was appointed to Executive Secretary/CEO of the Mackinac Bridge, again becoming the first woman to hold that position.

Kim is member of the International Cable Supported Bridge Owners Association and is a Transportation Research Board panel member, a member of MTU’s Presidential Council of Alumnae and their Civil Engineering Advisory Committee. She was recently inducted into the MTU Academy of Civil and Environmental Engineers. Kim was named as the winner of the 2021 Felix A. Anderson award from ACEC of Michigan which honors individuals who have contributed to enhancing the image of the engineering profession. She also received the 2021 Woman of the Year Award from the WTS Michigan Chapter.
