History Hounds | From Alcona to Wexford: Naming Michigan's Post-Statehood Counties

[History Hounds] From Alcona to Wexford: Naming Michigan’s Post-Statehood Counties with Daniel Truckey, Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center, Northern Michigan University.

How did Michigan’s counties get their names? Some counties, including Wayne, Monroe, and the “Cabinet Counties,” were christened before Michigan statehood, but what about later ones such as Crawford, Gogebic, and Wexford? Join us to learn the stories behind the Michigan county names origins.

We'd like to thank the Historical Society of Michigan (HSM), which supports local history organizations, like us! They are continuing to make their History Hounds Lecture Series available online for free to members of HSM’s member organizations. Register for this remote presentation by 3:00pm the previous day.
