Here is a good example of a wooden compass, similar to the contemporary ones many of us used in school for geometry. It's bigger than what we used in math class, and this one has a real-life purpose. It was most likely used to draw templates for wheels, holes, or other precise circular objects. Early people obviously believed in the same principle we do: "Don't reinvent the wheel!"
