English china was a standard collectible in many wealthier American homes. This piece is stamped as being made in England, from the Royal Vitreous GEM pattern. The blue and white art is known as transferware. This method of production allowed English china factories to replicate relatively complex patterns onto lower-cost pottery, thus making it more affordable. (Think the equivalent of assembly line production for cars!)
