Fish was, and still is, a prime source of protein for Michigan residents, given that we are surrounded by fresh water lakes teeming with fish. This large fishing net with wooden rim would have been used to land the big ones, like salmon. Although we don't have any record of it, we're pretty sure that stories of "the big one that got away" were just as prevalent back when this net was used as they are today!
